The word doula is Greek for “woman caregiver.” Doulas help women and their families throughout the birth process by providing physical, emotion, and informational support. Having a doula at you birth has been demonstrated to:
· Reduce chance of cesarean birth
· Shorten the duration of labor
· Decrease the need for pain medication
· Enhance infant bonding
· Improve breastfeeding success
· Improve overall perceptions of birth and parenting experience
I believe that each woman should be supported in having a safe and satisfying birth experience as she defines in. I do not have a personal agenda and I will work you and your birth team to help you realize your birth wishes.
I believe the right doula is out there for everyone and it is important to choose someone you can connect with. The interview process is a great way to meet doulas face to face and find the best match for your family. Most doulas offer this service for free and I always recommend interviewing at least three people. I like to use this meeting as an opportunity to find out what is most important to you in your birth experience and answer any questions you have for me. I am happy to provided references upon request.
Three prenatal visits
I offer three prenatal meetings instead of the typical two, because I believe that one of the most important factors in your birth experience is being supported by people you know and trust. These meetings are tailored to address your specific questions and concerns. Typically, at the first meeting we go over your wishes and develop a birth plan, at the second meeting we discuss and practice coping strategies for labor, and at the third meeting we talk about newborn care, breastfeeding, and postpartum period.

Continuous Labor Support
I am available 24/7 for your birth. I will come as soon as you want me there and provide continuous support throughout your labor and in the first postpartum hours. Comfort measures I often use in labor include:
· Position changes
· Hot and cold compresses
· Breathing techniques
I will not make decisions for you, but I will facilitate communication between all members of the birth team and make sure you have the information you need to make a choice. If you have a partner, I am not a replacement for his/her support and I always respect any space you may want as a couple. Although I always intend to be at my clients’ births, on rare occasions there may be a conflict. Should this occur, I do provide a back-up doula. To find out more about the doulas I work with please check out the links below.

Two postpartum visits
Within a month after the birth, I will come by for at least two follow-up visits. This gives us a chance to review the birth and talk about how you are adjusting postpartum. I will also bring a meal for your family and provide help with breastfeeding, newborn care, and any light housework. If additional support is desired, I can be hired for postpartum doula work.
The fee for birth doula services is $700-900 on a sliding scale, meaning you pay the amount within that range that you can afford. A retainer fee of $300 is due at our first prenatal meeting and the remainder of the balance is due at our first postpartum visit.
Postpartum doula services are $20-$25 per hour.
